Available light

Available Light did always play an important part in photography.
For this image, a B / W analog film was used and only the available light and shadow, no post-processing on the PC:

You can play with darkness and light, in addition you can develope completely different colors, depending on the nature of light. In the days of analogue photography, this type of lighting was very popular. As everyone could use light-sensitive films and very fast lenses.
The granularity of the photosensitive analog films was very popular, as it gave the images extra depth. It brought one admiration to photograph with such films.
With digital photography, this has changed fundamentally.
Mainly due to the unspeakable passion for Photoshop slobbing that the images look like on an illustrated cover, there is a change in preferences occurred. For this perfect illuminated studio recordings are essential.
Available light is stigmatized as cheap.
In part it is because only current camera models do not produce a lot of noise at high ISO numbers.
It is also due to the fact that fast lenses can only be purchased for a lot of extra money.
The standard lenses that are included with camera-kits are mostly at medium aperture and medium focal lengths able to capture a lot of light.
The aim is actually just the standard tourist who photographes at full sunshine.
But one can do pretty available light pictures with digital cameras too. Unfortunately, most observers criticize only the noise of the images and not the creativity of the shots.
This indicates also an extreme change for completely smooth, completely sharp and even equable illuminated images. A change to taking pictures as a purely technical activity, instead of using the camera as a tool for ones artistic ambitions.
I think a film noir would not be made in these days, if its for the will of the majority of photographers and models.
Back to Available light:
One only needs to watch how nature photographers work as they have no other choice but to photograph with available light.
And yet they make professional and award-winning images.
Who wants to know how to do , just ask wildlife photographers.
Perhaps we should remind us of Lord Snowdon, who revolutionized theater photography as he took shots with 35 mm cameras during the show, in front or behind. And he took it to the extreme using enlarged details of the pictures.
And his pictures are still breathtaking, such as this of Sir Laurence Olivier
